The menu is a rich tapestry of classic Chinese fare, featuring standout dishes such as the Honey Prawns, Mongolian Lamb, and Sliced Beef with Black Bean Sauce. Each plate showcases robust flavors and careful preparation, reflecting a kitchen that values authenticity and consistency. The Chicken Chao Mian and various fried rice options, including their Special Fried Rice and Vegetable Fried Rice, round out a well-balanced offering suited for both solo diners and groups.

Customers often underline the restaurant’s generous servings and value. John Murdoch appreciated the banquet’s abundance, remarking on how it exceeded expectations without compromise on quality. Nat Hill and others noted the Lamb dishes, particularly the Black Bean variety, as highlights, demonstrating the kitchen’s attention to traditional Chinese seasonings and textures.

The space itself is modest and functional, not focused on modern décor but rather on delivering a warm, unpretentious dining experience. Service is polite and efficient, which complements the brisk pace of takeout orders—a testament to the kitchen’s ability to maintain quality under demand.

Feedback from patrons like Hannah Rohrbacher underscores the freshness and flavor balance found in dishes such as the honey prawns and drunken chicken. The quick service, even during busy periods, ensures food arrives hot and ready to enjoy. Claymore Marshall’s mention of the food’s freshness and lack of greasiness highlights Golden Pond’s advantage over many counterparts in the area.

Golden Pond also offers a practical perk for takeout customers—a cash payment discount that adds to the overall value experience. While some diners observe small inconsistencies, such as the satay chicken's texture, these notes are minor against the restaurant’s strengths in flavor, portion size, and price.

Ideal for families, casual dinners, and those craving authentic Chinese cuisine without the fuss, Golden Pond consistently delivers satisfying meals in a relaxed setting. Its location in the Shire makes it a convenient and dependable option for anyone looking for genuine, hearty Chinese dishes executed with care.

Golden Pond, you have redeemed yourself!! I thought to give it a fair second go, and I was not disappointed! The food was how it used to be. The boneless lemon chicken was crispy, and the lemon sauce was delicious. The Mongolian Lamb was the star of the plate. Absolutely beautiful. The satay chicken was not velvetted properly, though, which was a little disappointing, but overall, I was very satisfied. Pay cash (10% off), and you get great value for money. 3 dishes and a special fried rice was $56! Generous servings, too. Best Chinese food in the Shire!!

Wow! If you are reading reviews to decide where to eat in Engadine like I was an hour ago, stop looking you’ve found a great place! We were slightly hesitant as we approached and there was only one other couple in the whole restaurant, but as soon as we took our first bites we knew we had made the right choice. This place was cranking out take out orders nonstop and still our food got to the table in under ten minutes. It was all hot, freshly cooked, and so delicious. The veggie fried rice was loaded with so much variety of vegetables. The drunken chicken so flavorful with the big chunks of ginger—yum! The dim sum were the perfect textures with a great sauce. And the honey prawns were cooked perfectly and were very moreish

Generous portions and great value for very fair prices, relative to other restaurants in the shire. Polite service. Take away came with prawn crackers. Cash discount on take away. Freshly made and doesn’t taste too greasy like some Chinese can.
